What it means to be American is to have a love for your country. It can mean that you were born, raised and/or came from the US. But one must have the heart and passion of a true American. American isn’t just having white skin. People with different backgrounds, heritage, etc. can be rightfully proud American. For example, as a biracial male of African American and Mexican descent, I can call myself an American. Whites and blacks shouldn’t be labelled whites and blacks, just as Americans. Black people are as American as white people. A person can be as AMerican as you, as they are totally different than you in any aspect. Stereotypes should not define what it is to be an American. Even immigrants from other countries can become true Americans. Half of my family came from Mexico to here in the United States and have become true American citizens. Everything doesn’t matter about what a document says if you’re an American citizen or not. The spirit of an American makes an American. Anyone from anywhere can be an American. Being American is to have faith at the lowest points of your nation.
